The microscope shows up like this when typing "ls-usb": I assume that's why neither the camera nor the built-in microphone of the microscope is usable by these webcam applications like Skype, guvcview, cheese etc. When I tried to get my Traveler SU 1071 USB microscope working with my fully patched Ubuntu 9.10 (32bit), I stumbled upon the problem, that it is only half-way recognized as a USB device (with a known ID) when plugged in.
